The Ebonyi State Police Command has stated that it has arrested four suspects over the alleged abduction and killing of a student, Magnus Okeke.
Recall that Okeke who was a student at Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu Alike in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, was abducted and killed by unknown persons.
But the the spokesperson of the Ebonyi State Police Command, DSP Joshua Ukandu, has confirmed the arrests of four suspects.
He made the confirmation to Channels Television in a phone call that the Command. Ukandu stated that police has launched an investigation into the matter to unravel the reason behind the killing of the student.
He said, “Four persons have been arrested in connection with the incident. It is still under investigation to establish if he was kidnapped for ransom. Or if he was murdered, or if it is cult related. The suspects are still being interrogated.”
Recall that the management of FUNAI in a press statement released by the Public Relations Officer, Elom Ubochi, confirmed the development. He had stated that the university management was working closely with the police and other security agencies to ensure that the student was rescued. That was upon getting the report of the student’s abduction.
However, all efforts made to rescue Okeke alive failed. Instead, his decomposing body was recovered under the bridge of Akọ Stream at Nwakpu Village, along the Ikwo/Abakaliki Road on Monday, 17th June 2024. That was two weeks after his abduction.
But according to preliminary reports from security agencies, the alleged perpetrators of the heinous crime were youths from Ohankwu Village.
The PPRO explained that there was no cult-related war on the university campus on the date Okeke went missing. He, therefore, appealed to anyone with useful information to come forth with it to assist the authorities. He said it could aid in the investigation.
The deceased Magnus Okeke was a student of the Department of Accountancy before his abduction on 1st June 2024.
According to the report, he was on his way back to the private hostel hen he was abducted. The residence was located at Ohankwu village in Ndufu-Alike community.
