The wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has began a campaign to educate traders in the State on the health implication of food preservations.
The first lady who was at the Nkwo Nnewi Market warned against the practice of storing food with chemicals. She, therefore, urged the traders to quit storing food products with poisonous chemicals because of the damaging implications on human health.
Speaking during her ongoing Healthy Living Market Outreach, she warned the marketers on the health risks of storing foods with chemicals substances.
According to her, while people who practice such methods may not be fully aware of the dangers, diseases caused by the act could be life-threatening.
Soludo noted that so many slow-killing sicknesses could be traced to unhealthy consumption lifestyle. Some of these, she said might come from foods grown or stored with harmful chemicals.
She also used the occasion to educated the market people on the rules of personal and environmental hygiene. She, therefore, urged them to take common hygiene practices like hand-washing and cleaning of their surroundings, seriously.
Soludo also encouraged the traders to look out for one another and live as one community. She urged them to combine their efforts to tackle certain social vices like drug use and cultism among children and youths.
Speaking at the event, the Member representing Nnewi North in Anambra State House of Assembly, Augustine Ike, praised Mrs. Soludo for the initiative. He pointed that the impact of the healthy living crusade is being felt across the State’
The lawmaker added that programme has corrected so many negative habits that stood in the way of the people and their good health.
Expressing his gratitude to the wife of the governor, the President General of Anambra State Almagamated Traders Association, ASMATA, Chief Humphery Anuna, thanked Mrs. Soludo.
He described what Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his wife have achieved over the last two years in the State as phenomenal.
“There is a new air of confidence in governance because something unprecedented is happening in Anambra State,” he said.
The Chairman of Agbaedo Market, F-Line, and the Secretary, Lady Nancy Ifebi, expressed appreciation to Mrs. Soludo. They stated that the market will adopt the healthy living message. They promised to make it an everyday practice for all the traders, as well as those who are visiting the market.
The market leaders also commended the governor’s wife for taking out time to bring her crusade to Nkwo Nnewi. They praised her for devoting her time to the welfare of humanity.
