It has been revealed how a 61-year-old officer of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, Olalekan Ogunmakin, has lost his life in Lagos.
According to reports, the man died after tyres that pulled out from a moving truck crushed him to death in the Alaka area of Surulere, Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro reports that on Thursday, Ogunmakin, who works with the Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, in Ijora, was heading to a location when tyres from a moving truck rammed into him on Monday, May 27.
It stated that the impact of the collision caused Ogunmakin to sustain varying degrees of injuries. The man was seen lying motionless on the ground of the accident.
“People who were at the scene of the accident rushed towards his direction, in a bid to rescue him. They rushed him to a hospital. But on reaching the hospital, the man was confirmed dead.
PUNCH Metro reported that the driver of the truck, however, did not wait to ascertain Ogunmakin’s state. The driver went his away.
The source said, “The man (Ogunmakin) was attached to the LAWMA office. He was going somewhere when the tyres from the truck that was at top speed rammed into him.
“The truck driver did not wait the man his tryes hit down. Some people claimed that the driver knew what happened. Other persons said he might not know what happened because the truck was still moving on other tyres.
“When people in the area rushed man to hospital, they confirmed that he died due to the injuries he sustained from the accident.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, when contacted, confirmed the incident. He said the victim was rushed to the Randle Hospital in the Surulere, where he was confirmed dead.
The PPRO added that efforts were on to arrest the fleeing truck driver.
“The incident happened on May 27, 2024, around 10.24 pm, at Alaka, inward the National Stadium. It involved an unknown truck driven by a driver and an officer of the LAWMA.
“Our investigation revealed that two tyres of an unknown truck pulled out suddenly, while in motion and hit a 61-year-old man, Olalekan Ogunmakin, attached to the LAWMA office, Ijora.
“The man sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Randle Hospital, Surulere, Lagos, for treatment. He died and this was confirmed by the doctors on duty. The corpse was deposited at the same hospital for preservation. And an investigation is ongoing for the arrest of the truck driver,” Hundeyin said.
