The festering crisis rocking the Labour Party, LP took a dangerous dimension on Monday as different protesters clashed at the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja.

According to report reaching IVNTV NEWS, trouble started when members of the Edo State Chapter of the party gathered at the party’s headquarters to demand that the National Working Committee of the party ratifies the decision of the state chapter, suspending Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the party.

But another group that is in support of the National Chairman, were also present to counter the protesters. The meeting of the two factions nearly resulted into deadly clash but for security intervention.

The report stated that efforts of the security operatives notwithstanding, the protesters forced their way into the LP national office.

According to the CHANNELS TV, the anti- Abure protesters on not meeting any of the national officers of the party, moved to the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

On getting to the INEC office, the group deliver a letter from the Edo State Executive Council, pushing for action to be taken on the party leadership.

Recall that last week, the Ward Executive of Ward 3, Arue, Utomi, in the Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State had suspended Abure.

But tin a twist, the Labour Party’s national leadership stated the Ward Executive in Edo State lacked the power to remove the National Chairman.

The national leadership, therefore, maintained that the suspension placed on Abure was illegal, and  unconstitutional. They stated that the action contravened the party’s constitution.
