The President of the United Nations General Assembly, UNGA, Dennis Francis, has announced that the world assembly will on Thursday, May 30, hold a memorial service for the late Iranian President and his Foreign Minister.
Recall that Iranian President and his Foreign Minister died in a helicopter crash on Sunday, May 18.
This was disclosed on Thursday, after Francis paid a glowing tribute to the late Iranian President and Foreign Minister. The UN President had also signed a memorial book at the Islamic Republic’s mission in New York
The UN General Assembly President, was accorded a welcome by the Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Iravani.
Speaking at mission, Francis sympathized with the Iranian Government and nation and the families of the victims.
Recall that the UN General Assembly had earlier observed a minute of silence for the victims of the helicopter crash in Iran.
Raisi was returning from a ceremony to inaugurate a dam on Iran’s border with Azerbaijan on Sunday. His helicopter developed a technical issues and crashed in Varzaqan, northwestern Iran, on Sunday.
According to report, Raisi was accompanied by his Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian. Also, with him were a number of senior provincial officials who were also on board the helicopter that crashed. All onboard the helicopter perished.
