Nigerian ace singer, John Asiemo, popularly known as Daddy Showkey, has recounted his past life style. The popular music star of the early 1990s revealed that he was a member of a notorious gang and once escaped been burnt alive as a result.

Daddy Showkey who was sharing his past life story on the latest edition of the Honest Bunch podcast, said he was nearly lynched for stealing.

Speaking on the show, Showkey stated that he was once a member of a notorious gangsters. He, however, thanked God that he realized himself and turned a new leaf.

The 53-year-old music star stated that he and his gang members had access to guns. And they used them to terrorize people residing in Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

Going down memory lane, Showkey, recalled how during one of their operations, two gang members, including himself, were caught. He said, “I was almost burnt alive by an angry mob.”

“I was in a gang back in the day. I won’t lie. Some of us found a gun where we used to pick valuables from a refuse dump in Ikorodu. We started using the guns to terrorize the area.”

“One day, when we were out in our usual style, someone saw us and started screaming, ‘Thieves, thieves, thieves’.

“They caught me and my friend. They tied us up and they were going to burn us. We were saved miraculously. But unfortunately, they caught 91A and burnt him alive on the new Road.

“I am a living testimony for every young man. Because If I, John can be alive today to become Daddy Showkey, there is nobody who can’t become someone.

“People are usually ashamed to talk about their past but I’m not. I don’t care,” Daddy Showkey said.

One of his popular music hit was “Daddy Showkey”. It was the track that brought him to limelight in the early 1990s.
