The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPC, has refuted news reports that its tank farm in Marine Beach, Apapa, Lagos caught fire on Friday.
According to NNPCL, the said tank farm was at a depot belonging to HOGL Energy Ltd (Honeywell Depot), and not an NNPC Retail Ltd’s facility.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Limited, Olufemi O. Soneye. He, however, stated that the state-owned oil company and other depots in the area have resumed loading activities.
Recall that news made the rounds on Friday, that NNPCL tank farm in Lagos was on fire. The report also added that the fire, which has since been extinguished, was as a result of petroleum products spillage within the perimeter of the tank farm.
The spokesperson of the Lagos Fire Service, Amodu Shakiru, confirmed the incident. He said the emergency call came in at 11:27 a.m.
He said the Iganmu and Ajegunle Fire Stations promptly responded to the call to prevent the fire from spreading further.
However, NNPC has assured that the incident will, in no way, affect petroleum products supply and distribution across the country.
