The Police in Ekiti State has arrested a man, identified as Babatunde Olaoluwa for stealing of phones in churches in the State.
According to report, the suspect, allegedly pretend to be a worshipper only to dispossess people in churches of their phones. The report stated that Olaoluwa area of operation in the Oye Ekiti and Ayegbaju areas of the State.
The arrested was confirmed by the Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, Adeniran Akinwale. He said the suspect was arrested on Saturday evening after allegedly making away with seven phones belonging to different worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church, Ayegbaju Ekiti.
Akinwale, in a statement on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Command, Sunday Abutu, stated how the suspect was arrested.
He said, “The suspect, who went to the church pretending to be one of their members, studied the worshippers. And in the euphoria of praises, made away with seven phones.”
Akinwale also stated that the suspect had confessed to the crime.
“The suspect, during interrogation, confessed to the crime. He said he had been operating around Oye Ekiti and Ayegbaju Ekiti with Churches as his target.
“He further confessed to having stolen a lot of phones from the Redeemed Christian Church of God and New Reality Christian Centre, all in Oye-Ekiti.
“Investigation revealed that the suspect, after meeting his target, normally sent the stolen phones through a motor park to Lagos. His friend in Lagos would assist him in selling the phones. And after the sales, he would send the proceeds back to him through online transfer.
“Meanwhile, the seven phones that he stole during his last operation at CAC, Ayegbaju Ekiti, have been recovered from him. Some of the victims of his atrocities have showed up at the police station. They also identified the suspect and their stolen phones,” the Commissioner said.
“The suspect will be arraigned accordingly immediately after the conclusion of the investigation,” the Commissioner added.
