The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested four alleged fake EFCC officials over robbery and abduction in the State.

According to report, the police stated that suspects, who posed as EFCC operatives robbed students of the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa. They were also said to have abducted an ND II student, Adudu Kingsley, of the same institution.

This was contained in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, DSP Ramhan Nansel. Nansel spoke on behalf of the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada.

According to Nansel, “On 17/04/2024 at about 1545hrs, a distress call was received that four individuals posing as EFCC personnel, using a Toyota Corolla, Green in colour with registration number Abuja YAB 509 TT robbed some students of Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa. The students were lodging at the Samakwe Lodge behind Government College, Nasarawa LGA. The fake EFCC officials also abducted one Adudu Kingsley, an ND II Student of the same Polytechnic.

“Reacting to the unsavoury development, Police operatives gave the suspects a hot chase. And a road block was mounted at Laminga junction to stop the suspects from escaping with the victim. But they hit the barrier and fled.

“Furthermore, Police operatives at Anguwan Madugu were contacted to mount another road block, which the suspects sighted from a distance. They abandoned their operational vehicle and the abducted student and fled.

“Luck ran out of one of the suspects as he was caught and beaten mercilessly by an angry mob before the arrival of the Police while others fled.

“The suspect was rescued from the mob by the Police and rushed to Primary Health Care, Laminga, where he died while receiving treatment.”

Nansel further added that a search on the recovered vehicle yielded two identification cards linking the fleeing suspects to the syndicate.

The DSP stated that further investigation led to the arrest of three additional members. He gave their names as Hyelda Aliyu Ibrahim, Henry Patrick Okwu, and Shuaibu Abubakar (the operational driver).

He stated that Exhibits recovered included an iPhone 12 Pro Max, Huawei, and Tecno Spark 5. As well as fake EFCC ID cards.

Nansel also pointed that the suspects have confessed to terrorizing student in Keffi and Nasarawa LGA areas.

The DSP, however, stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspect at large. He maintained that victims have identified the suspects, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, has assured that upon conclusion of investigation, the suspects will be charged to court for prosecution.
