The operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Osun State Command, on Thursday arrested a fake medical doctor. According to report, the fake doctor was arrested after he delivered a pregnant woman with a baby, but who died in the process.

The report stated that the fake doctor, Oladiti Saheed, aged 32, only known educational qualification was the Senior Secondary School Certificate of Examination, SSCE.

Saheed with his qualification operated a clinic, known as Oloruntoyin Clinic in Ororuwa town. Until his arrest, the clinic had ran in the Boripe Local Government Area of the State for over six years.

According to the NSCDC spokesperson in Osun, Kehinde Adeleke, the suspect was also training some youths under apprenticeship. He was said to be charging them N5000 for the training.

Adeleke added that a pregnant woman had gone to Saheed’s hospital for consultation. She was said to be hypertensive and Saheed administered drugs to her after which he gave her an appointment.

The NSCDC spokesperson added that the suspect confessed to having asked the woman to come back when she started feeling signs of labour.

“On Thursday, 18th April 2024, the woman began to experience labour symptoms and was in the hospital where she was delivered of a baby. The victim, however, developed some complications shortly after. And she was later rushed to a nearby licensed hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

“Further discreet investigations revealed that the suspect also engaged in the training of people to become quack doctors like him. He charges them the sum of Five Thousand Naira only,” she said.

According to Adeleke, the Commandant, NSCDC in the State Command, Michael Adaralewa, has directed that thorough investigation be carried out. He assured upon completion of investigation, the suspect would face the full wrath of the law.

Adaralewa, therefore, charged members of the public to be wary of health institutions where they seek medical attention. He advised that they must always patronize genuinely qualified medical doctors for safe medical services.
