A surprise herdsmen attack on Nimbo Community in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State has left 4 persons dead and many injured.

According to report, the attack which occurred on Sunday at Ugwuijoro Community where the villagers had gathered to mourn one of their dead member.

The report gave the identified of those killed in the attack as Okeh Simon Ugwu Oruku and Okeh Chukwuebuka. Others were Julius Ogbonna Odiegwu and Gabriel Ugwor Ezea.

According to the report, most of the villagers have deserted the community and abandoned their homes for fear of more attacks.

In a viral video sighted on Monday morning, the Community was deserted while some dead bodies in their pool of blood littered the compounds. Some chairs and tables were also seen scattered in the compound where the mourners had gathered.

A voice in the trending video described how the invaders entered the community when they were mourning one of their dead. The voice suspected to be of a man said the attackers took the villagers by surprise. He said they came and opened fire at them while seated in the compound.

Recall that in 2016, men suspected to Fulani herders invaded Nimbo Community, killed many and burnt houses.

Speaking on insecurity in the area, a member of the community who pleaded for anonymity lamented the insecurity in the area. He said that a driver of an ENTRACO was killed three days ago. The commercial bus driver who is from Nimbo was shot dead at Opanda.

The source, however, revealed that there are many herdsmen camps around Ugboda, Adani and Opanda. This is because of the thick forests that abound in the areas.

The source equally decried the absence of police presence in Nimbo and some of the flashpoints of the herders attacks. It lamented that the villagers have been abandoned to their fate .

“The herders are still coming into Uzo-Uwani with their trailer loads of cattle. I don’t know who is giving them the morale. They have even started destroying farms with their animals. I don’t know what Uzo-Uwani people have done to deserve these inhuman treatments,” the source lamented.

The police is yet to confirm the attacks. Efforts by other media outfit to get the police to respond proved abortive.
