All is not well at the troubled Plateau State as a group of Muslim faithful in the State have kicked against the conversion of their mosque to a market.

This is coming on the heels of complaints by the Mangu Concerned Muslim Consultative Forum (MCMCF).The group has expressed deep concern over the conversion of their demolished Juma’at Mosque in the Bungha Dawo area into a market. The market is located in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State

According to DAILY TRUST, an ethno-religious crisis had led to the destruction of mosques and churches in Mangu in January 2024.

However, MCMCF in a statement by signed by its Chairman, Mahmuda Jafaru, strongly condemned this act. He stated that the group had informed the Chairman of the LGA, Markus Artu, about the situation. He regretted that no action has been taken in resolving the issue.

“Jafaru described the conversion of their mosque into a market as a severe violation of religious freedom.

He stressed that such actions are not only disrespect the sanctity of religious spaces. But also disrupt the peaceful coexistence of the Muslim communities in the area.

MCMCF juxta positioned the situation with the protection afforded to churches in Muslim-dominated area. The Chairman cited an incident where vandals at the Gangaran Kwata church were apprehended and handed over to security personnel.

Efforts by DAILY TRUST to reach out to the Chairman of the Mangu LGA, Markus Artu, proved abortive.
